Panic Street 19” x 19” Oil on Panel 1977.
In the summer of 1977 I developed a new style of painting that was very psychedelic. Punk music was just taking off and it seemed to me that the world was changing fast. This period in my life is discussed in the About Me section on this site. In those days I painted quite a few pictures depicting scenes of social unrest, unfortunately I do not have photographic records of most of these paintings. This picture takes its title from the lyrics of ‘Hate and War’ by the Clash – ‘I don’t want to walk down panic street all dressed up like a geek’.
